APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR AWARD

One of Coventry's oldest organisations ‘The City of Coventry Freeman’s Guild’ celebrated the best of the city’s young talent last week and we are delighted to announce that one of our very own young apprentices Andrew Hirons came Runner-Up in this prestigious award.

The venue for the event was the historic Guild Hall of St Mary, which was built originally in 1342 and extended in 1414, it was owned by the Trinity Guild but was confiscated by King Henry VIII. It now belongs to the Coventry Corporation and is one of the oldest guild halls in the country. The Guildhall served as the centre of King Henry VI's court during the Wars of the Roses and briefly as a prison to Mary, Queen of Scots. William Shakespeare is thought to have staged plays here, whilst writer George Eliot, who knew the hall well, used it as the setting for a scene in one of her novels.

We at Wickman’s are very proud of Andrew, the fact he was amongst hundreds of Apprentices who qualified but the list which dwindled down to 6 then finally he got Runner-Up place.

Well done Andrew & keep up the good work, we’re looking forward to you completing your Apprenticeship in 2011 & you becoming one of our Top Engineers.

Wickman France Badminton Star

Sales correspondent Gisele Bibollet from Wickman France recently won in the singles at the Haute Savoie. Gisele modestly tells us she plays in quite a high level (B) but we know she is an excellent player in the International tournaments she takes part in. She's been playing since she was 16 and is very happy her young son Erwan is now beginning to take an interest and starting to play.
